Christopher Grange
Centre for Adult Blind - Resource Centre
September 2001 saw the opening of our Resource
Centre.
It houses a Low-Vision Area, High Tech Computers
and a Communication Area, which BT are putting considerable resources
into.
The Equipment Area houses the widest possible
range of equipment, meaning people have a choice and the equipment
will suit their needs.
A Library area has Braille, talking books and
spoken word videos, plus a very large information area. A music
library is also underway.
Tanauk Sight Line are installing one of their
computers, which will reproduce Newspaper & Magazines, using
either screen magnification or voice synthesisers.
Lynn Reitze is training a number of our ex-students
and they, in turn, will train the visually impaired person with
their chosen piece of equipment. Students become teachers.
Because it is based in our Rehabilitation Centre,
people have the opportunity to try any of the equipment available,
and also to seek advise from one of our qualified members of staff.
Companies also use the Centre to preview and
demonstrate their new and up to date equipment. Indeed, our diary
is already quite full.
